Brian is a tax principal at DOZ and has been in the practice of public accounting since 2008, specializing in the real estate industry. Brian has gained experience with DOZ in the real estate industry through auditing, advising clients, researching for audit guidance and technical accounting issues, and reviewing updated accounting/audit guidance and industry trends.
Brian works in our consulting group at DOZ, handling all types of assignments throughout the lifecycle of low income housing investment. Brian has been involved in underwriting, due diligence, LIHTC Syndicator sponsor reviews, portfolio analysis, disposition planning, and other areas of the investment lifecycle. He works with his clients to ensure they understand the terms of their investments, and to best position their investment assets. Brian also actively attends and speaks at national and regional conferences related to affordable housing.
Brian has gained valuable experience in the affordable housing arena by providing audit and financial reporting services to lower-tier partnerships, management and construction companies, and corporate entities. He is well versed in entities that utilize LIHTC pursuant to Section 42 of the IRC, HUD financing and/or rental assistance, financing from various state agencies and RD programs. Brian has also been heavily involved in reviewing and preparing audits of developers and management companies involved in the LIHTC, commercial, and other various types of real estate. These audits have been prepared for OMB, HUD, RD, and various debt and equity providers. Brian is very experienced with financial and compliance audits conducted under Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, OMB Uniform Guidance, and Government Auditing Standards.
Brian’s duties include working with his clients to coordinate and execute all phases of the engagement, from planning the audit to delivery of the final report and return, ensuring that all applicable deadlines are met and exceptional client service is provided. Brian spends a considerable amount of time on his engagements advising management companies and developers on their current and possible future agreements. As he reviews each of the files/agreements, he will offer suggestions to his clients to ensure that their operations are as efficient and effective as possible.
