Since 2007, Mr. Schneider has specialized in providing audit and tax consulting services to clients in the rental real estate industry, with a focus on those that utilize the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program. Prior to joining DOZ, Tom worked as an audit and tax manager for the Austin, Texas office of a national accounting firm. He has extensive experience with investment funds using the equity method of accounting and multi-family housing partnerships. He has also provided tax consulting services to clients with respect to partnership dissolution and partnership interest transfers. Tom has experience with properties financed by tax-exempt bonds and properties subject to the auditing requirements of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Tom stays current with the real estate industry and the continually changing regulatory environment by attending continuing education classes and conferences on an ongoing basis. These classes and conferences address the most current issues, including Low Income Housing Tax Credits, HUD audit guidelines, Government Auditing Standards, and Uniform Guidance. This education is sponsored by various organizations, including the Indiana CPA Society, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Affordable Housing Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute for Professional and Executive Development, Inc.
Tom sits on the firm’s training committee and has been an integral part in the development and launch of DOZ’s external webinar training program. His extensive knowledge and experience in the industry combined with his ability to synthesize complex concepts into accessible, understandable educational presentations make him a highly regarded speaker and presenter, and has contributed greatly to the success of this program. Tom also manages and oversees DOZ’s Texas office of 10 employees.
Tom holds a CPA license in both Texas and Indiana.
